YPSO is a wonderful place to improve your orchestral skills, make friends and meet future colleagues, and have fun while doing it!
My favorite memory was playing La Mer in the Musikverein in Vienna. I remember walking on stage and gazing up at the chandeliers and the gold sculptures and thinking, "this is where the Vienna Philharmonic plays, and I am sitting where the famous horn players sit!"
Favorite Memory of YPSO
Without a doubt it was playing La Mer in the Golden Hall in Vienna. It's hard to put it into words, because it was so surreal, but the euphoria I felt after that concert is something I'll remember my whole life!
Favorite YPSO Memory
Playing in the Musikverein was perhaps one of the greatest moments in my life. There is always that usual concert adrenaline rush that I get from playing a concert. What happened at the Musikverein was this feeling and exponentially more.
YPSO attended the International Festival of Youth Orchestras summer of 1973, Aberdeen, Scotland, and London, with Yair Strauss.

I had been trying to remember the given name of Mrs. Bell (who was on the board and in later programs used her husband's initials) because I have an interesting story about her.
In the Fall of 1962, I started as YPSO's Principal 2nd violinist. The next season, I won the audition for the concertmaster spot. Peter Hansen challenged my position after every concert. He wanted the concertmaster spot for the Spring Concert where he was going to be the concerto soloist. It was a great life experience to enter the competitive world of music. The experience led us both to work at our best. Peter won the audition for the Spring Concert.
Every rehearsal was a good memory. Working with David Ramadanoff made me an overall better musician as it helped me get into the schools I wanted to attend.
